Antonius Schuh, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Schuh serves as Chief Executive Officer of AviaraDx, Inc.  Prior to AviaraDx, he served as CEO of Arcturus Bioscience, Inc. AviaraDx has been formed based on the molecular diagnostic assets of Arcturus Bioscience, following the sale of the company’s life science business to Molecular Devices, Inc. Prior to Arcturus, Dr. Schuh served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sequenom, Inc.  He joined Sequenom as Managing Director of the company’s German operations, Sequenom GmbH, from Helm AG of Hamburg, an international trading and distribution corporation for chemical and pharmaceutical products.  At Helm, he headed the Business Development Group of the Pharmaceutical Division, and the associated Technical and Regulatory Affairs department.

Prior to Helm, Dr. Schuh was with Fisons Pharmaceuticals, where he held medical and regulatory affairs positions and served as member of the management teams of Fisons AG, Switzerland, and Fisons GmbH, Austria.  Dr. Schuh is a certified pharmacist and earned his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Bonn, Germany.

Mark Erlander, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Erlander has over 18 years of experience directing and leading research and development for gene discovery as it relates to drug discovery and molecular diagnostics.  

Prior to joining AviaraDx, Dr. Erlander was Group Leader and subsequently Research Fellow at the R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute (Johnson & Johnson).  He also was an Assistant Member and postdoctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute in the Department of Molecular Biology.  

Dr. Erlander holds a BS degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Davis; a MS degree in biochemistry from Iowa State University; and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He is an inventor with 32 issued U.S. patents and 34 U.S. patent applications, and has authored 55 scientific papers.

Stephen L. Zaniboni, MBA, CPA, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Zaniboni has over 20 years of progressively responsible roles in finance and administration including Chief Financial Officer for Sequenom, Inc., Vice President, Finance for Aspect Medical Systems, Inc. and Corporate Controller for Behring Diagnostics. Prior to joining Behring, he held various financial management positions at Boston Scientific Corporation.

Mr. Zaniboni began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co. He graduated with a BS degree in accounting from Boston University, and earned his MBA from Boston College.

Bernard Chang, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Chang is both a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist, and a board certified cytopathologist.  After receiving his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Dr. Chang completed a residency in pathology at UCLA and a fellowship in cytopathology at the USC Medical Center. 

For more than ten years, Dr. Chang has served as a staff pathologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas, CA, and Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA, where he currently serves as Laboratory Medical Director.

Xiao-Jun Ma, Ph.D., VP R&D / Biostatistics
Dr. Ma is a leader in translational medical research, applying molecular biology, computational biology and statistics to discover novel therapeutic drug targets and diagnostic gene signatures for the past 12 years.  He has over 20 years of experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical and molecular diagnostic-related research.

Prior to joining AviaraDx, Dr. Ma held senior bioinformatics positions at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute and Monsanto/Searle.  He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Wuhan University, China.  He received his doctorate training in biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University and University of Iowa, and his post-doctoral training in molecular genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles. .  He is an inventor with more than 20 U.S. patent applications, and has authored 22 scientific papers.
